Red House event offers support for the community
Red House, a specialist care home in Bridlington, is set to host an open wellbeing day to support the care of older people in the community.
Red House will provide a day of fun and enriching activities for the community, with specialist sessions for older people and those with dementia, as well as expert advice on care and nutrition on Friday June 16 from 10am-4pm.
Visitors to Red House, which is operated by Hica Group, will also have the opportunity look around its communal areas and show bedrooms while enjoying refreshments provided by the home.
The programme of activity for the day is set to include a gentle exercise class and a boccia tournament in the morning, followed by an afternoon in the Red House ‘pub’ reminiscence pod with traditional pub games, and tea and cakes in the garden area.
Staff at Red House fundraised to purchase the classic pub RemPod to provide new and effective ways to maintain and support the quality of life for residents living with dementia. RemPods support those with dementia by providing a relaxing environment, encouraging happy memories of familiar, comforting times and are fully equipped with authentic furnishings and memorabilia.
Red House manager Leah Davies, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming the community to Red House and showcasing our excellent activity programmes.
“By using our expertise and knowledge we want to provide the community with support on how to care for older people. We are offering free OOMPH! wellness sessions for older visitors to enjoy, examples of the nutritious meals we provide and tours of our home.
“We strongly believe that activities like OOMPH! sessions support the health and wellbeing of older people. It is important that our residents spend their time as they choose, so we have a dedicated activities person to support them in taking part in interesting activities, rekindling old past times and trying new ones.”
The exercise sessions available at the open day are designed by OOMPH! the UK’s largest provider of activities and exercise training to the care sector. Staff across Hica Group homes have been trained in the specialist exercise sessions which are designed to support quality of life and wellbeing for older people and those with a disability.
