Buckshaw Retirement Village sign up for the Step Challenge
5 members of the Buckshaw Retirement Village staff team have signed up to a national Step Challenge, formed five years ago to get people to walk more and feel the difference. Whether it’s by walking to work, going for a lunchtime stroll or simply using the stairs rather than the lift, the challenge wants people to enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle, insidd and outside of the work place. Currently in the middle half way through its 8 week run the Challenge has seen a team from Buckshaw, and 14 teams from the Hica Group as a whole’ join nearly a thousand teams taking part up and down the country who will be recording their steps to see how far they have walked.
The Buckshaw team consists of Alison Evans, Simon Dinnage, Eileen Ronald, Morgan Eakins and James Kershaw and recently Alison and Megan went to Madrid for a half-marathon which saw them doing over 37,000 steps on one day.
Alison said, “We are all having a great time and as part of our challenge we have included a daily walk with the residents. Being consistent with the walks has helped to increase the number of residents joining us and we now have family members helping with wheelchair assistance.”
