HICA Triumph at Health and Care Awards

The HICA Group are proud to announce their success at the Hull Daily Mail Health and Care Awards.  They had nominations in three categories and were delighted to win all three. The three categories were Carer of the Year, Care Home of the Year and Covid Heroes.

Amanda Peacock is a Care Support Worker for HICA at Home who has a great reputation for her loyalty and dedication to service users, their families and her colleagues. She has been known to work seven days a week during the pandemic and refusing to let services users down even in her times of need. She went above and beyond in her own time to support a service user and their family during their time of need. Amanda won Carer of The Year.

Elm Tree Court won the Care Home of the Year award. Throughout the pandemic they continued to deliver exemplary care and supported staff. Family and friends were constantly involved in virtual resident meetings. Elm Tree Court worked to ‘bring the outside in’ to ensure residents missed out on as few experiences as possible. Elm Tree created its own in-house: café, pub, snooker hall, cinema, sensory room, allotment, secret garden, shop and Coronation Street themed room.

Margaret Walker and her team at Overton House worked tirelessly over the pandemic to care for those with dementia, with not one resident in the home contracting the virus. Training and procedures were instantly rolled out, families were kept fully up-to-date, and they created a series of fun events and activities including their own in-house Hull Fair to ensure residents’ wellbeing. They were delighted to win the Covid Heroes award.

The event was held online meaning that many staff could attend and watch their colleague’s triumph. Virtual tables were set up so colleagues could chat together ensuring that there was a great atmosphere during the proceedings.

HICA CEO Terry Peel said, “The HICA Family are delighted that these team members have been recognised for their excellence and hard work. They are all passionate, committed people and a true inspiration to their team and colleagues. During these very difficult times, they have carried out their duties with confidence and compassion to ensure the safety of all. We are all extremely proud of them.”
