Here at Buckshaw Retirement Village we have a 'whole home' approach to dining, hydration and nutrition where we recognise and understand that providing a worthwhile mealtime experience adds to the emotional health and physical wellbeing of our residents.
Meals are nutritionally balanced, using locally sourced produce and prepared by a fully trained catering team or through Apetito, a nationally renowned food services company who specialise in care homes. For more information on Apetito please click here.
For people who have a dementia we have to take extra care that their needs are being met. As dementia progresses, eating and drinking can become more difficult for some people. Some people may not recognise the food in front of them or coordination may be challenging. Food may be difficult to chew or swallow or people may not want to accept support with eating and drinking.
We have a fully developed dementia training programme which covers all aspects of working with people with a dementia and our catering and support teams are passionate about ensuring that all residents receive a good quality, nutritionally balanced meals and dining service appropriate to their own individual circumstances.
