Fundraising at Hica

I would just like to say thank you again to all the people who sponsored and supported me on my recent 25 Miles for 25 Years blog.jpgsponsored walk. I am delighted to report that thanks to your generosity we managed to raise £3500, a wonderful amount and £1000 more than my original target. So, once again and sincerely, thank you all so much – you have all helped to make a difference.

This money will go towards the purchase of a Tovertafel Table.  The Tovertafel is a little box that can be mounted on the ceiling, for instance, above the dining room table of a care home. Inside the box is a high-quality projector, infrared sensors, speaker, and processor that work together to project simple games onto the table. Because the colourful objects respond to hand and arm movements, residents get to play with the light itself.

This is a fun way to stimulate people with dementia to move more and interact socially. The table was developed for and with people in the moderate to severe stages of dementia. The interactive games break through apathy by stimulating both physical and cognitive activity and encouraging social interaction. Moreover, the Tovertafel creates treasured moments with family members and carers. These games are all about enjoyment and wonder!

We featured one of the tables at the last conference and those who saw it I’m sure will agree that these are an amazing piece of equipment that could play a large role in making a difference to the lives of many of our residents. But Tovertafel Tables come at a cost. One table costs £6,500 and this jumps considerably when you add VAT. I’m sure though you will agree that although costly, any piece of equipment that delivers a continuous ability to make a positive impact on the people we provide services for is worth every penny. For this reason I want to announce that the fundraising for the Table will continue and will be the main focus of Shine Fundraising this year. I will be setting up another Just Giving page and we will be holding some events this year that I hope you will be able to join in with. Firstly our annual sponsored walk will take place again, and will again be the walk from The Hollies, around the Humber Bridge Country Park, over the Bridge, around Far Ings Nature Reserve and return.  At the Sponsored Walk we are hoping to have a number of stalls such as car boot tables, tombolas, cake sales and others.

We are also trying to get a Race Night off the ground which sounds like a lot of fun.

There will, I’m sure be more events and fund-raising in due course and if anyone has any ideas of your own about fund-raising then please get in touch.

If you have any queries about our fund-raising or would like to help please contact us at
