A Fabulous HICA Afternoon Ball
This year’s HICA Afternoon Ball was a spectacular event, with everyone dressed to impress in their “All Around the World” themed costumes. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the creativity on display was truly inspiring. Thank you to the Willerby Mercure Hotel for their impeccable hospitality and to the amazing Chris Johns, who entertained us for the second time with his brilliant vocals! And a massive shoutout to Julia and the SHINE Committee for putting together such a brilliant event. You outdid yourselves once again!
Lastly, and far from leastly, we would like to extend our immense thanks also to all the staff, service users and friends who attended the ball with their amazing costumes and made the Ball the runaway success it was.
In addition to the fun, the Ball is also a time to celebrate outstanding achievements within our community. Every year, we announce the winners of the HICA in Bloom and Employee Awards, honoring those who go above and beyond.
HICA’s Blooming Welcome Competition
This year, 18 of our homes took part in the HICA’s Blooming Welcome competition, where they were challenged to transform their service entrances into something truly beautiful. You can watch the five finalists’ creative entries on YouTube here.
Winner: Tamarix Lodge wowed the judges with their stunning Alpine rockery and water feature, as well as their revamped roundabout, which made their entrance look breathtaking.
Second Place: Overton House, with its impressive and nearly-winning design.
Runners Up: Elm Tree Court, The Grange, and The Hollies—all of whom received well-deserved trophies for their hard work and creativity.
Employee Awards
We were also proud to honor some exceptional members of our team with our two prestigious employee awards:
Shining Star Award: Voted for by internal management and staff, this year’s coveted award went to Sharron Drury of HICA Homecare – Doncaster. Although Sharron was unable to attend, her Manager, Nikki Lea, proudly accepted the award on her behalf.
Friends and Family Award: Voted for by external friends of HICA, this award recognises individuals who have made a significant impact. This year’s winner was Julie McGlough, Health and Wellbeing Manager at The Grange at Buckshaw Retirement Village, who was nominated an impressive five times!
CEO’s Special Mention Award
Finally, the CEO’s Special Mention Award was given by Terry Peel to Fairways in Grimsby, our newest home. Terry praised the staff for how quickly they embraced HICA’s values and for their exceptional use of social media to positively promote their services. Well done, Fairways!
Congratulations to all the winners—we are incredibly proud of your hard work and dedication. It’s events like these that remind us what a talented and passionate community we have here at HICA.
