A record 157 employees of the Hull-based independent care providers the HICA Group gained NVQ qualifications this year, with two of them becoming the first HICA employees to gain gold awards.

The employees were presented with their awards by Des Kelly, Executive Director of the National Care Forum, at a special ceremony held in Hull. All the employees work either at the Group’s 26 care homes in the region, its two Hull city centre offices or in HICA’s Home Care division, which provides support for people in their own homes. HICA employs over 1400 people throughout the Group.

The gold award winners were Sharda Swift, a domestic worker at the Overton House care home in Cottingham, and Jade Cary, a domestic worker at the Albermarle home in Hedon.

Sharda’s gold was for submitting an outstanding NVQ portfolio in housekeeping, and Jade’s was for an outstanding portfolio in cleaning and support services. HICA had further success when Donna Jackson, Manager at Albermarle, gained an NVQ Level 4 award and Registered Managers award in the same year.

HICA Group Chief Executive Andrew Stow told guests at the awards ceremony that he was delighted to see a new record set for NVQ achievements. “It’s also very pleasing that the NVQs cover such a broad area of activities – from health and social care through to cleaning and support services, housekeeping, food and drink preparation, accounting, and business and administration,” he added.
